Nautical Theme
Who would not dream of setting up house on the shores of a lake or a river or, better still, on the oceanfront?
For some, this dream is a reality while, for others, it remains a fantasy. Then why not live that fantasy? If you are somewhat creative, you can conceive a décor that will put you in a nautical mood.
It is possible to give a nautical look to almost any townhouse. The use of appropriate colors, along with a few decorative elements, will help you create the ambiance you want.
Navy blue is a good place to start! It is the color of water, of the ocean; no wonder we call it navy blue! Other colors, like red and white, work well with that theme: navy blue and white remind us of the sailor's uniform, while the combination of red, white and blue is often found in sports and marine clothing. As you see, colors by themselves can evoke a specific theme.
To complete the nautical look, decorate with objects that are reminiscent of the sea, like a wooden boat, a compass, a barometer or some rigging, and hang a painting or a set of prints illustrating nautical scenes.
Dark wood window trim and other architectural details recall the interior of a sailboat; if your house is already equipped with these elements, take advantage of them! Set off dark wood window trim with white or cream curtains arranged as sails.
All you need is to be a little creative; let your imagination do the work and cast off the moorings!
